2010 Hockey
·To prepare for the hockey tournament we practiced in lunch time and play time and had positive
attitudes. ·To be a successful team we worked together and played to our strengths and weaknesses. ·We used strategies such as looking around for an open space and looked after the ball on the field. we used each other and supported one another. ·Things we could of improved on were supporting the person with the ball. Over all I think that we worked really well together as a team. ·Strategies I used were looking around for an open space for my other team mates to pass to me. And I tried to support the person with the ball.
2010 Triathlon learning story
Beep, beep, beep was the irritating noise that I heard vaguely as my eyes opened and shut tightly again.
I sprang out of bed like a kangaroo. Today was the triathlon I thought in my mind.
We all clambered in to the car and off to school we drove. Sonya then picked us up from there. The closer we got the more
butterflies swarmed in my stomach. When we arrived there were kids every where. I organised a place to sit and started to get ready. As I put my shoes on I thought of the goal that I had set at school. My goal was to try my hardest and be proud and positive.
When the time came to line up I think I got so nervous that I could have exploded!
Ready set go were the words that echoed in my head for the whole run. As I came in for my bike my legs turned into jelly I thought I might collapse but I didn’t. I clutched the handle bars and off I rode. The cold breeze cooled me as I pedalled. Splash! I jumped in the pool. I had no breath to swim but some how I did it. I raced to the desk and sighed my name in between gasps for air.
What an exiting, exhilarating, and exhausting day that was.

Swimming 2009 - Self Assessment Why is it important to learn to swim?
Because as you get older it is a great skill to have.
Also it can teach you about water safety at an early age.
How enjoyable were your swimming lessons this year?
1------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- l 10
I most enjoyed learning Butterfly
Because … it was a new skill to master.
Also my breaststroke kick because it was challenging.
How much did your swimming improve this year?
1---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- l -------------------10
This year I learnt / improved in these areas:
Butterfly, tumble turns, and breaststroke.
The area that I improved in most was … butterfly
Because… at the beginning of the year I couldn’t do butterfly this year I can do 50m.
How well did you organise yourself, show a positive attitude and keep on trying during your swimming lessons this year?
1----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------l -------------------10
Examples of this are …
If I couldn’t do something I kept on trying.
My next step is to get my breaststroke sorted.
Because I can not yet do breaststroke properly.
This photo shows me learning to dive with my teacher, Pam.
Skiing Goals
Skill - To challenge myself and be confident in myself
Key Competency - To respect everyone around me
Ski learning story! “Beep, beep, beep... wake up!” were the words that I heard vaguely as my eyes opened and shut tight again. I pushed the heavy blankets that were piled on top of me on to the floor with a loud thud. I squeezed into my skiing clothes that I had set out the day before. My stomach growled as I stumbled lazily into the kitchen to look for food.
As I sat my self down in the car my tight fitting suit pushed up against my cold face. We started our journey right on time. The car motored along like a
leopard. We stopped in at Ohakune to have morning tea.
I ran up the skate board ramp and clutched my hand around the tow bar. I let go and slid backwards, feet first!
We made our way up the hill to the mountain. It looked like a very tall pointy cup cake with icing that glistened like it had diamonds in it.
The car came to a sudden halt. I opened the door to see the sun reflecting off the plain white snow. It made a very bright scene.
I took my place in line to grab my gear. A sigh of relief as my foot slid gently into the tight fitting boot. Heal toe, heal toe ... I clambered to the next desk.
Before we came up to the mountain we set ourselves goals. My goal was to
challenge my self and to be confident in my self. My key competency goal was to respect every one around me. I clambered onto the snow that from a distance looked like that icing that shimmered like it had diamonds in it. Before I could go anywhere I had to dump my bag somewhere. I looked for every one else's bags. “Found them,” I thought as I dropped it beside them.
Clank! Clank! As I dropped both my skis, drops of powdery snow hit my face. Click! Click! I took off down the first slope. Ahhh! After going down twice I was ready for something harder.
“Mum, mum,” I wailed. “Could you take us up to park lane?”
“Yes” she replied.
I squatted as if to sit down, the seat came from behind me and scooped me up.
Squeak … we pulled the safety bar down and admired all around us. We watched as a very experienced skier made their way down.
Ready set go! I lifted my self off the set and moved forward. Suddenly with a rush of excitement I was off down the first hill, down the icy trail and around the corner to what else the mountain held. Finally I saw the queues for the chair lift. I made it and I came down to a sudden halt. After one go it had hooked me in and again we went... After about three more goes at Park lane I was ready for something even harder. Mum took me up the Movenpick. I turned around and freaked out but I had already started moving. I tried to retrace my ski marks but it was too late. I had already started moving. I zigzagged my way down and I did it, I did it with out falling over! I had achieved my goal! I had challenged my self and I did it with out falling over.
Next step was the Giant “Just follow Caleb K,” shouted Malcolm over the noise of the chair lift. One more chair lift to take . My heart raced as I saw the net beneath me to catch you if you fell. I tried to remove my self from the seat but I was so nervous it felt like I was super glued to it. I finally lifted my self up. The seat gave me an extra push as I slipped down onto the icy slope. I gracefully glided down the steep glistening mountain.
Yeah right! It started that way. After about 2 minutes Caleb was down and I was only half way there. Then suddenly I took off. I tried to stop but no success
“At least I could turn,” I thought. I zipped in and out of people. I gradually came to a stop and stared down the last hill. I have come this far “I can do it”
As came to the bottom of the slope I turned to look at the challenge I had just faced. Feeling a lot more confident in myself I flew! I flew like I was a bird flying soaring high.
Then suddenly I lost my balance, wobble, stumble, tumble. I fell flat on my back, but I was still moving I slid right down to the bottom of the hill. I heard the wisp of wind as a snowboarder rushed past. I rolled on to my
Stomach. It was either that or get stampeded by other mountain users. I felt the wetness of the snow seeping through my suit.
I came roaring down and then kaplonke. I fell right in front of the café. What an end to the day! I followed the return sigh for my gear. I exchanged the heavy ski boots for my muddy, tattered gumboots. We strolled back to the dusty car. The trip home was very quiet but when we got home we were time balls. Filled with excitement we exploded. I really enjoyed that time and can't wait to go back next year. I will be able to learn more and practise. I am going to learn how to parallel stop next time.
Cross Country 2009
My goal is to...be positive!

I will achieve this by...
- doing well in my practices
- thinking that I can do it.
Cameo Writing
And hasn’t Waituna put on a lovely day for us to day,” I heard the loud speaker exclaim.
The course looked like your every day sheep and beef farm but hang on a minute … let’s actually take a walk around lumps, bumps, stones, creeks, MUD, MUD and more MUD!!
Hills, steep terrifying hills.
“11 year olds! Can you please give your mum a hug and make your way to the starting line”. My heart was pounding. I felt like I could have blown up with nervousness' in 2 seconds. I tried to think of some stretches to do as we waited for the lucky last 10 year old runner.
Get ready! Get set! And ... Go!
My heart thumped as I jogged my way around the first corner. As I passed where Apiti was sitting I heard the biggest cheer ever. Well it seemed like that to me. As I faced the challenging course ahead I thought of what I would feel like at the end.
I turned to do my best up the steep rugged hill. Down, down, down … not too fast I told my self. I watched the competitors in front of me as one by one they went down into the deep dark hole and came out as drowned rats. Oh no am I going to make it ? No! I got sucked into the waste deep pool of who knows what. After I got soaked to my waste I didn't care about other little crystal trickling streams.
As I came to the last corner of the race I said, “ sprint, sprint”.
Yes I proudly took 4th place. I was bone chilled from head to toe. I was sooo proud of my self for running and achieving my challenge.
